character short story

The story of Jamaal continues as it is tough to live in the ghetto of Watts. We all know his story and his situation. He just recently got accepted to UCLA for a full rides scholarship for football because he is extremely talented at the
sport he loves. His hard work and dedication if paying off for this motivated young man. He wants to succeed and maybe get into the NFL someday. In the meantime, he is still affiliated with the harbor city crips and still selling dope in order to provide for his family. He is on a mission to get out, but will he get out safely?
Jamall came home one day, a school night at two in the morning which is unacceptable. He came with stacks of money and with a few bruises on his face. His mother worried to the extreme stayed awake in the rocking chair waiting for Jamall to get back. "Where the hell have you been, and oh what happened," she asked in a trembling voice. Jamall explained to her that he was in a drug deal with his gang and that he sold some drugs to the opposing gang and when he did not bring the right amount of drugs, he was jumped to the extreme leaving him bloody and hopeless. He still got the earnings, but his swollen eyes, bruised lips and blood stains in his search he knew that this gang life needed to end and was going to very soon. "The only reason I am still in this game is for you and andre, I want to help provide for you untill I go to college and move on finding a career," said Jamall. "As soon as I leave, I am out of this business, this will kill me." His mother grabbed an ice pack from the freezer as she put it on his swollen face. As she walked away she kissed him goodnight and told him to go to bed because he has another day ahead of him. Jamall has so much desire in his heart and wants to become something in this world rather than a cokaroach. He had an outstanding high school season in football and caught the eye of many division 1 schools and already has the potential to go pro. Even if he does not he has the drive and dedication to get a degree and start a career in business. The only thing in his way is the fact that he is still in the gang and that telling them he's out could be fatal. He has to find a way to get out or he will never get out of that lifestyle. He went to school the nest morning and did his usual routine of go to classes and do the work, just going through the motions. He is passionate for life and is thankful for his opportunities to play and study. Andre of course, is the brainiac of the family, but Jamall is passionate about getting educated even if he isn't the most naturally intelligent person. Coming off that state championship for football really put the cherry on the cake for his high school career by satisfying him. He is just reflecting how lucky he is to be in the situation he is and that he is still alive.

Finally came the day. Graduation Day! A tear in Jamall's mothers eye for all her sons accomplishments throughout the years. Knowing that Jamall will be out living on his own now making his own decisions and pursuing his goals. She has full trust in him and knows he will make the best out of his life. As Jamall receives his diploma, Andre yells at his big bro with pride and cheers him on. "I finally did it," said Jamall. He knows bigger things are ahead, but this baby step is one of many that will lead the way. Going home he felt that life has been good to him, that god has answered his prayers and will soon be a miracle story. After the big celebration he went to one of his homie's house to party it up and just live it up. Jamall felt a little uneasy about going, but he realized that it's just a get together with a bunch of excited high schoolers and that he is just going out for some fun. As he approached the house he saw a few girls throwing up in the bushes and he thought to himself how silly of them to put poison in their bodies. Walking through the doors he saw that basically the whole school was there. People making out, a few brothers smoking a blunt, and everyone grinding and enjoying themselves. Jamall was offered to drink a few times, but he declined knowing how dumb it would be to give in. Jamall is a very bright kid for being around so many bad influences. As he was flirting it up with the ladies this one guy came up to him. He had a blue bandana around his face covering his nose and below, and a a white durag on his head. Jamall couldn't identify him at first, but then he knew. His tatoos on his arms, his big stud earrings and his long gold chain. MARCUS. He pulled out his gun and pointed it at Jamall's head as everyone left in chaos. "who the f### do you think you are. you think you're better than us. we were family, but no. I know what your plans are Jamall. Once you're in you're always in you got that." Jamall trembling as he was pinned against the wall with sweat dripping down his chin was speechless in panic. He did not know what to do or what to think. As Marcus grew impatient, he pulled the trigger. Jamall not willing to end his life at this moment, had to react. He grabbed a hold of the gun with all his force as he shot shooting at Marcus's foot. As Marcus was in pain, Jamall knew it was his only chance to get out. As he ran out Marcus tried to fire back, but missed. Jamall ran out to the front yard only to see it filled with police cars. Marcus was arrested that night for attempted murder. Jamall was relieved to see his mother again as he broke in tears. He thought he was done, but he came out alive. Marcus is the leader of the Harbor city crips and was disguisted when he heard that Jamall was going to leave them. Outraged and angry led all the wrongdoing which landed him a ticket to santa barbara jail. Luckily, they tracked all of Marcus's gang members affiliated with him and arrested them, but not Jamall. Jamall got out of the gang a while ago and that was the difference. He pleaded his case about wanting to make his life better by doing the right things. He is a goodhearted kid that made a few errors, but for the right reasons. Now he did not have to worry about getting murdered by his own gang for leaving them and could now move on with his life in harmony.

New opportunities lied ahead. He felt the potential he had within as he packed his favorite Emmit Smith jersey. He always had a chip on his shoulder, but now it felt light. He proved the doubters wrong and the people who never believed in him. What a proud moment he felt that morning. Growing up to a single mother on welfare. Well, the odds are against him, but he took everything that was given and made something out of it. He was finally going to the next level in life. His brother gave him the biggest hug ever almost choking him out, as he thanked his big brother for being there for him when hos father wasn't. His mother with her dimples smiling at his boy and kissed him on the cheek telling him how proud she is. As Jamall picked up his luggage he gave his mom a pair of earings he had saved up for and brand new football cleats for Andre. They could both feel the sincerity that came out of Jamall's heart, so they all hugged once more before he left. On the ride to campus he felt joy that he made an impact on his family. Throughout the years and struggles, he still managed to succeed on the field and off. He felt the satisfacction of being a strong minded person with compassion for others, He impacted not only others, but himself. He beat the odds, that is how warriors are made.

the art of dancing

Shaking your hips with no conscience
staying in tune being loose as can be
not a tense part in your body
be yourself and mimic no one else
go with your heart for the rest will take care of itself
any type of dance requires desire and passion
style, clothing, hair and fashion
don't be afraid to get close to your partner

color poem

Oh the color blue how I love you

How natural you are with your refreshing demeanor

Whenever I'm outdoors I run into you

How stunning you look the color blue

We are spoiled with all the incredible scenery you present

even the cool foggy, mist that leaves a desirable scent

From the coast of Spain to the mountain tops of the Rockies

you never fail to disappoint bringing out your true beauty

you are incredibly impeccable with a look thats so dashing

everytime I hear you I hear the waves crashing

You are so real with your soft and smooth texture

nothing is flawless, so calm with composure

Dripping through my fingers leaving ever so slightly

I just want to approach you and hug you so tightly

The sweet taste you leave as you burst in my mouth

delighting so tempting is the neutral flavor

Diving in your waters getting trying to get near

with you here I can't say I have any fear

I can always feel you even when I tear

running down my chin dripping onto my collar

When I am fatigued struggling to get out of bed

you refresh me wake me up as you splash me getting in my head

conviction poem

so you say you're ninety nine percent swag
with youre hats and sagging pants looking ridiculous trying to fit in
living in the suburbs is a contradiction to your style
you have no style you just copy your friends and media
the old you was the real you and not a copy
you are now as fake as my grandpas teeth
the whole yolo style is hot right now but it does not fit everyone
stick with the original people love that about you
besides swag is for boys but class is for men
swag goes away but class will forever live on
be the person you were meant to be which will lead you to your destiny
stand up for you corkiness, intelligence, manners
people who accept that matter and people who dont are pure barbies
pretending to have an accent like a brother from compton
please wake up from your fantasy world and live the reality
the people can see through you
seeing the person you are trying to be
stop being a sheep following the herd
be the man in charge like the war general
be secure of youre true personality and indulge a deep breathe of air
You need to be yourself for the sake of youre fate
I love myself and accept me for the person
It brings true happiness and attracts people you were meant to be with
I believe in originality
DO YOU

Character in conflict

Jamall is a gang member in Watts, but he loves his mom and brother dearly and wants to get out. With the money he makes he buys groceries and clothes for his little brother. He is caring and his future seems bright because he has received a full ride scholarship to UCLA for football because he is an outstanding player. He has been blessed with talent and is excited for the opportunity. Everything seems great, but it is difficult to just leava a gang because you can get killed by them if they think you want out. Jamall is stuck in a difficult situation because being a gang member has no future and is willing to do what it takes to get out of their group.

slam poem

Dear slut,
Out of all the years we have been together, memories we have cherished and time we have spent, you just shot yourself in the foot. I thought you were beautiful, your personality was impeccable, o how I was wrong. You took my heart and then put a dagger right through leaving me soaked in my tears. It is ubelievable how a woman can be such a fake double head monster. You fooled me making me look like a fool flat on my back instead of a stool. You shattered my trust into pieces, you dity skank. You destroyed my love for you, now when I see your face I do not see your beauty. I see an atrocious looking woman with an ugly personality. Now, I know your personality, a liar and a cheat. You are extremely vulnerable and giving into temptations

dialogue

Just another day in south central watts. Hardly being able to wake up due to the gunshot sounds at night of the harbor city crips. It's not easy being a long beach blood. Jamall has to watch his back no matter where he goes even at the comforts of his house. Bullet holes at his door, cracked windows, blood stains on the carpet from previous drivebys. You can say that it is a dangerous environment. Jamall is a young 17 year old african american gang member who is just trying to get by in life. His father is a meth addict who abandoned their family when he was just 7 year old. His mother does the best she can to support her family working two jobs a day who barely gets to spare money to buy clothes for her sons Jamall and Andre. His mother always nags her sons to do well in school and to try to do what it takes to get a scholarship to get into a university so they can get out of the hood and live a healthy life. Andre is still too young to understand as a 2nd grader, as he plays with his nerf ball tossing it up landing in his curly thick hair into the grass, Andre though young, is a very bright kid with not only books smarts, but streets smarts and knows how to survive the wild. Obviously Jamall taught Andre a thing or too on how to avoid violence or self defense. Andre may not be the brightest kid in the school room, but he sure can ball. As a football player standing at 5 foot 11 inches weighing in at a muscular 195 pounds he is the star running back at crenshaw who has all the scouts drooling over him to commit. Even though Jamall is gang affiliated he hopes for Andre to avoid that lifestyle because he loves him too dearly and knows that a bright future lies ahead of him. Jamall always plays football with his brother in the backyard teaching him some moves and jukes. He sprints with him and works with him on his agility, hoping that Andre can carry the tradition of being a star running back. Andre loves playing with his older brother and can feel his warmth as he picks him up and puts him on his shoulders. As Andre ran for a diving catch he landed in a pile of mud. His smile and laughter brought joy with all his clothings covered in brown, His air max 95s were brand new and all dirty now. How does Andre have such expensive shoes? Jamall has connections as he sells dope on the streets he gets paid a large amount of money and gives back to his mother. Luckily, she does not know, but it is a risky business where one mess up could leave your body dumped in the harbor. One day he will get out of that business Jamall says who will go to full ride football scholarship at UCLA to get a degree. Jamall's dream when gets out of the hood is to buy his mother a new home in Los angeles where they can live peacefully and never worrying about if they will see another day.

character sketch

Jamall talks like a thug. He is afraid of losing his family members by violence. My character loves to see his younger brother andre succeed in school. He would say how much he admires Andre and how he will make an impact on his family.Jamall shows love by hugging his brother and mother and showing affection. He gets angry at himself at times for being gang affiliated and all the violence that comes with it. Jamall is a true competitor and has the heart of a champion which is why he is one of the top football players in the state. He thinks about how he can make money by selling the goods to help provide for his family. Jamaal dreams of graduating high school, go to college and even play in the NFL. He would give up the gang life because it is very dangerous and could cost him his life. Jamaal always loved his mom's barbeque drizzling in mis mouth. Jamaal plays the song My moment by DJ Drama because it gets him motivated and is just waiting for his chance to open some eyes and show the world the potential he brings to this world. His only passion is football. His important objects are his family pictures because it bring him memories and his cross necklass because when he is in doubt he just takes it anywhere to feel some security and strength. The average person would think of him as a juvenile that just is talented at sports, but he really is an intelligent person in a tough situation. My character hates cleaning bathrooms, but then again who doesn't. He likes to exercise by going on long runs through the neighborhoods. My character has a fear of flying so airplanes are not his favorite type of transportation. My character loves his mothers cooking. The hardest thing Jamall had to do was that he had to shoot someone for the sake of the protection of his family because the intruder was about to barge in the house.
